The Magnificent 89th Academy Awards Are Closing In, And How Has Films Gotten This Far, Here Are The Facts!

The 89th Academy Awards is almost here! La La Land leads the films this year with more nominations of 14 tying the previous holder Titanic.

This year is different with 9 films instead of 8 being nominated for Best Picture with Arrival, Manchester by the Sea, La La Land, Hell or High Water, Hacksaw Ridge, Hidden Figures, Moonlight, Fences, and Lion.

This year is also different than last year as no African American actors/actresses were nominated in 2016, however 6 are nominated this year those being Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Mahershala Ali, Barry Jenkins, Naomie Harris, and Octavia Spencer which indicates  the Academy is listening to its audience and their complaints from last year.

Mel Gibson’s triumphant return to Hollywood is completed at this year Oscars where he returned with his directorial feature: Hacksaw Ridge that is nominated for six awards for Best Picture, Best Director: Mel Gibson, Best Actor: Andrew Garfield, Film Editing, sound mixing, and sound editing.

Best Actor in a leading role category has serve as the best well acted, and emotional actors of the year that the academy and foreign press recognizes as a whole. Last year’s winner was Leonardo Dicaprio for his well masterpiece film the Revenant. His speech included “Thank you all so very much. Thank you to the Academy. Thank you to all of you in this room. I have to congratulate the other incredible nominees this year. The Revenant was the product of the tireless efforts of an unbelievable cast and crew…”.

This year’s nominees include Andrew Garfield, Casey Affleck, Denzel Washington, Ryan Gosling, and Viggo Mortensen for their wonderful performances in their films: Hacksaw Ridge, Manchester By the Sea, La La Land, Fences, and Captain Fantastic.

Best Actress vice vernal means the best of the year. Last year’s winner was Brie Larson for her heartbreaking performance in Room. Her speech included “I was trying my best to tell their story and I hope I did right by them”.

This year’s nominees include Natalie Portman, Emma Stone, Isabelle Huppert, Meryl Streep, and  Ruth Negga for their performances in Jackie, La La Land, Loving, Elle, and Florence Foster Jenkins.

This year’s 89th academy awards are live this Sunday on ABC with talk show  comedian Jimmy Kimmel as the host.

This year’s nominees have shown us performances by people who proved to be really good at their job which is entertaining people, but most people acting with an moral lesson that their respective film is trying to get through to.
