The Tennessee Sports Writers Association announces All-State girls basketball teams

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Sports Writers Association announced its All-State girls basketball teams for 2016-17 on Thursday, March 30. Each team features 15 players from Classes A, AA, AAA and Division II.

Any player who was a finalist for a Miss Basketball award was automatically included on the All-State team and shown in bold below.

Tennessee Sports Writers Association is comprised of sports writers, editors and college sports information directors who work in sports in the state of Tennessee.

 

Division I, Class A

Kara Meadows

Kara Meadows, a notable senior from Clarkrange High School is not only the Miss Basketball winner for the 2017 Division I, Class A Team but her play throughout the TSSAA State Basketball Tournament helped to leaf her team to the finals game. Meadows score 28 points and 6 rebounds. Meadows was named to the All Tournament team along with the following players who were also voted into the 2017 All State Team:

Division I, Class AA

The 2017 TSSAA State Girls Champions Tournament double overtime game between Pearl Cohn High School and Upperman High School was arguably one of the best games of the state tournaments this season. One of the most exciting players to watch is the well deserved winner of Miss Basketball, Akira Levy. Shooting for a total of 51 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, she led her team to a 66 – 62 victory. Levy was also named All Tournament MVP.

Division I, Class AAA

The Class AAA MVP for the 2017 State Girls Championship was  Anastasia Hayes who also happened to be the Miss Basketball for 2017. The Riverdale High School senior scored 33 total points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists leading her team to a 66-59 win over Memphis Central.

Ashtyn Baker, MVP of 2017 Girls TSSAA State Tournament

Notable Ashtyn Baker led her team to a 2017 State Championship scoring a total of 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Baker was also named MVP of the TSSAA State tournament
